Hopefully I've put this in the right forum (I can't read Estonian).

Two of my grandparents are Estonian and I've been trying to track down their family tree using the SAAGA site. Despite not finding out my grandmother's madien name until recently, I've had good success on her side. With some help I've gotten pretty much everything available from her father's side. Her mother's side I haven't been able to track down - Eva Tonmann, born June 1857 (father Juri) in Friedenthal. I know that's section 1278 in the SAAGA site but I haven't found her birth. Finding that part out is 3rd on my list. My grandmother had one sister who made it out of infanthood - Ella Rehepapp - born March 20, 1886 in Parnu. A distant cousin I found (the one that's helped out on my grandmother's father's side) thinks she may have moved to Sweden to avoid the war, but there's no records that would indicate this. Any ideas on how to find out what happened to her ?

Figuring out my grandfather's side would be #1 on my wish list. I've been searching for months without any luck. The difficult part is not knowing where in Estonia he is from. His name was John Anson, born March 27, 1882. His parents were Gustav Anson and Tiina Wes or Kristina Vessi (those were the names on his two marriage licences) I realize the V/W situation in old German text which explains part of the differences in the last name of his mother.

In trying to narrow down the needle in a haystack, I've used the following two sites:

http://www.history.ee/cgi-bin/ono/tabel?q=Anson
http://www.eha.ee/nimeregister/

I've used many variations on the last names too : Anson/Ansson/Ainson/Ansohn/Hanson Wes/Ves/Vesi/Vess>Vessi

Using the areas that turned up in those searches, I've looked in the corresponding SAAGA sections at the Personaalraamat sections plus all the other documents containing birth registrations and I've come up empty.

Any suggestions ?!?

The http://www.eha.ee/nimeregister/ search sometimes returns results where the corresponding document isn't available - any ideas on how to look at those ?

Thanks,
Peter Anson

Here is the same family in Personaalraamat:
Saaga EAA.1278.1.412:75

Jüri (father of Eva) is the third son of Jüri Tenmann. But his family is not fully listed because he's of Greek Orthodox religion (abbreviation etc. gr.). So you should look the corresponding Orthodox church books (which I'm guessing is EAÕK Jõõpre kogudus, but I may be wrong).

Anyway, you can still research the ancestors of Jüri Tenmann by researching earlier revisions of Friedenthal:
Saaga EAA.1865.5.184:1
Saaga EAA.1865.5.179:1
Saaga EAA.1865.3.207/5:1

From the first document, does this mean that Eva's parents were 47 and 48 and Eva was 1.5 years old ? And her oldest sister was 20 years older than she was ? Wow !
